Read by 3rd is celebrating its 5th annual luncheon on Wednesday, May 9th at the College Station Hilton.

Read by 3rd is a volunteer program based at Anson Jones Elementary, Fannin Elementary, Jane Long Intermediate School, and Sam Rayburn Intermediate School in Bryan ISD. Founder Daniel Hernandez said it focuses on helping parents help their children become engaged and learn to read at grade level by 3rd grade.

“The whole philosophy behind it is parents and students learning together and supporting each other, and if parents become more aware of the opportunities and challenges that kids have, they can be very instrumental in helping their kids be more literate and successful,” said Hernandez.

At the luncheon, Read by 3rd will announce the Texas A&M College of Education and Human Development’s reading clinics coming to some of their schools in Fall 2018 and their Neighborhood Bookmobile bus.

“We are going to retrofit a bus donated by Bryan ISD and have it go across the community and neighborhoods where children and parents can access books,” said Hernandez.

Tickets to the luncheon must be purchased by Friday. Call 979-822-6100.
